Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot predicts that in the next two years around 50% of all video games will be available in 3D. The games company boss said he had positive talks with a number of 3D TV set manufacturers and that he fully expected the 3D TV market to grow substantially over the next few years.
Guillemot told investors “The 3D games are going to come more and more with the TV screens that are available. We did Avatar last year and the experience was enhanced by the 3D experience. On 360, PS3 but also maybe on portable machines… So we can count on substantial growth on the 3D aspect just because it’s more immersive.”
Guillemot also predicts a swift adoption of the technology by gamers. He predicts that even as soon as next year there could be a significant number of 3D games on the market. “I think next year we should maybe see 15-20 per cent of games that will be 3D on next-generation consoles. And then the following year it will be 50 per cent.”
The next generation of consoles are likely to be 3D compatible, and a recent firmware update to the PS3 means that it is now capable of powering stereoscopic 3D games. Nintendo are also planning on releasing a 3D DS Portable Console If Ubisoft’s CEO predictions are correct then the future certainly looks promising for the 3D gaming industry.
