LG Planning On Bringing Passive 3D TV Sets To The UK
3D TV News — By admin on April 6, 2010 at 8:21 amThe electronics company, LG, is introducing passive-polarization 3DTVs to the UK market in a bid to encourage a wider adoption rate of their TVs. The passive technology means that viwers will be able to use polarized glasses instead of shutter glasses. The passive polarized glasses are far cheaper for the consumer in comparison in the active-shutter variety. Passive polarized glasses will only cost around £1 instead of the £100 that the active-shutter glasses would cost.
LG’s new 1080p LD950 3DTV will come with four pairs of polarized glasses. The LG 3DTV sets will be available to buy in May
2010. The LD920 was used in pubs across the UK and Ireland for the debut on the BSkyB 3DTVchannel. The game between Manchester United and Chelsea was the first 3D programme to be transmitted on the channel. Sky has plans to show a further 5 Premier League games in 3D before the end of the season which ends on May 9th 2010. The football play-offs will also be available to watch in 3D. Sky say they will deliver a 3DTV service to homes this summer.
LG’s 47-inch LD950 has a 200 Hz refresh rate, four HDMI 1.4 connectors, USB 2.0 and will be compatible with 3D Blu-ray players. No pricing has been officially announced for the model yet.
